Intro Post: How I plan to get my WLE: Oct 26th
i currently have not found an internship but i am looking for one at a vet, a Mercedes dealership, and at meals on wheels in San Francisco. im contacting all of these workplaces but have yet to confirm an internship. ive called several other places as well but it seems like everytime i call they either tell me to leave a message or call back later and they will "try" to get back to me, i already have a place that i can intern for already but ill use that as a safety if i dont find one that i want. im determined to call these workplaces at least twice a day in order to get in contact with them, if i dont reach them over the phone i will go up there in person, then hopefully they will see how serious i am about finding an intern.
blog post # 1
on the first day of my internship i had a good time. basically, what i did today was meet the staff, there are about 6-7 barbers and 4-5 salon women. i also saw how the shop was prepared to be opened and how my mentor starts off his day. My mentor then showed my his chair where he cuts hair, and showed me what everything was for.i noticed that everyone's chair was unique.it was interesting just sitting back and actually observing everybody that came in and out of the shop, and engaging in brief and also deep conversations with the barbers about numerous topics. also this gave me a chance to see this barber shop as a business and not just a place where i get my haircut. there's a lot of stuff that needs to be done behind the scenes in order to have a productive business. one thing that i think i did that impressed my barber is actually showing early to ensure that i wasn't late on my 1st day. one area i need to grow in is not being so shy around random people, sometimes in your workplace its vital that you be able to communicate with customers or clients.throughout the day, i wasn't too busy be i can say that 90% i was doing something, i have a lot of questions but the main one is how did he get where he is now, career wise.
